Geocache Description:

This is an easy walking trail but can be muddy in wet weather.

This cache is located at the former site of the Mound City Glass Company. The parking area is located at N39 22.193’ W080 20.775’. The cache is located approx. 500-600 ft. from there. It is a very easy trail. As you walk the trail you will see the foundation for the glass plant to the left.

The Mound City Glass Company moved its plant from Moundsville, WV to Lumberport in 1917. This plant provided work for men, women, and many of the youth of the town. They made table ware, hand blown glass, and tumblers. They ceased operation in 1924. The Mound City Glass Company was sold to the Petersen Glass Company which made glass cylinders for gasoline pumps. This was an experimental project and the company closed the plant in 1931. On the paths to this cache you can see many shards of glass from the waste piles of the glass plant.
