Distance: 9,7 km.
Best time to start: the earlier the better.
Difference in elevation: 260 m.
Starting point: at elevation of 2000 m.
Good shoes, adequate clothing, water and food supply are essential
(no supply facilities along the way, no mobile phone coverage in
the area).
This hike is one of KU SU CO´s favourite tours on the island of
Tenerife, leading through lava fields as well as forests, with
views up to the Teide mountain and down to the sea (if there are no
clouds). The cache is hidden opposite of a volcano from which large
amounts of molten lava erupted back in 1795. Today the fire has
gone cold, but from the cache location you can see clearly the
manifold traces it has left behind in the form of black lava
streams - "COLD FIRE".
Starting point: car park Boca Tauce at N
28° 12,855' W 016° 40,700'
Follow the road TF 21 in direction Vilaflor - Granadilla to
N 28° 12,766' W 016° 40,876'
Here a new parking place is to be established, probably under the
name of "Juan Evora" (after finishing construction work you may
start the cache from this place).
On the left side of the parking lot there is a building. The
front of its roof lays on pillars, how much do you count?
Number of pillars minus 2 = A
Behind these pillars: how much doors do you recognize? The result
minus 1 = B
Is the roof covered with traditionally red-brown tiles? Then take
figure 7
Is it covered with gray slates? Then take 9
Is it a flat roof? Then take 1
The correct result ist = C
At the car park a trail begins, Sendero 18. Follow it to WP1:
N 28° 13. ( B + C ) ( A + B ) ( A + C )
W 016° 41.( A + B ) ( B+ B + B ) ( C - C )
WP1:
The path leads to a gravel road. On the right hand, on a stone you
will find a number of a Sendero. Divide this number by 2, the
result is = D.
Follow the Sendero to WP2
N 28° 13. ( D - B ) ( D - A + C ) ( A )
W 016° 41. ( D ) ( B ) ( D - A ) ,
until you reach a conspicious rock formation, not far left of
the road. We call it "The Watchers of the Valley". Turn to it when
you bear it in a right angle to your way. At its "feet" you will
find - just in the way cachers often do - a hiding place with info
= E
Proceed to WP3:
N 28° 13. (A+ E) ( E + C ) ( D )
W 016°41.( E + E + E ) ( B + A ) ( E - B - C ) :
You will reach a place where stone piles point out that a path
turns off to the left. This not very well-kept path leads uphill,
also the heavy rainfalls in the autumn 2010 had washed out some
spots. Here particular care, sure-footedness und sense of direction
is required.
When you reach the height you will find a fork in the road
marked with stone piles and coloured signs. You are close to the
final, you will find it with the coordinates:
N 28°13 .( E + E ) ( D - C ) ( A - B )
W 016° 41. ( A + E + C ) ( E + E + B ) ( D - B )
Ku Su Co wishes happy hunting!
There are several variations for your way back.
A: in the same way you came.
B: Follow the silver marks - sometimes green - in northern
direction. You will reach the "Roques del Cedro" with magnificent
view. From there a stony path leads downhill into the Canadas and
furtheron back to the starting point. Additional time about one
hour.
C: At the division just mentioned take the path in westerly
direction, which leads around the hill called "Montana del Cedro".
The way back will be longer by about half an hour. After a short
walk you will reach to a small cave, it is said an eremit lived
here in former times. After another 200 m a path turns off to the
peak of the hill. Stone piles and green marks. Additional time
about 1 ½ hour. Worthwhile because of the scenic views. Back on the
round path - continuing to the left around the hill, which ends at
a red watchtower. From here a gravel road leads downhill, at the
next turn off to the left, you reach WP1, and furtheron the
starting point.
Weglänge: 9,7 km.
Startzeit: je früher um so besser.
Höhenunterschied 210 m
Startpunkt bei 2000 m Höhe
Gutes Schuhwerk, Wetterkleidung, Wasser und Verpflegung ist
Voraussetzung (keine Versorgungsmöglichkeit, im Cachewandergebiet
kein Handyempfang).
Start: Parkplatz Boca Tauce N 28° 12,855' W 016° 40,700'
Folge der Straße TF 21 Richtung Vilaflor - Granadilla zu N 28°
12,766' W 016° 40,876'
Anzahl der Stützen minus 2 = A
Hinter diesen Stützen, wie viele Türen erkennst du ? Ergebnis minus
1 = B
WP1 N 28° 13. ( B + C ) ( A + B ) ( A + C )
W 016° 41.( A + B ) ( B+ B + B ) ( C - C )
N 28° 13. ( D - B ) ( D - A + C ) ( A )
W 016° 41. ( D ) ( B ) ( D - A )
An deren "Füßen"
E
Gehe weiter zum
WP 3 N 28° 13. (A+ E) ( E + C ) ( D )
W 016°41.( E + E + E ) ( B + A ) ( E - B - C ) :
Du bist jetzt in
N 28°13 .( E + E ) ( D - C ) ( A - B )
W 016° 41. ( A + E + C ) ( E + E + B ) ( D - B )
Ein schnelles Finden wünschen Ku Su Co.
Für den Rückweg gibt es mehrere Varianten.
A: zurück so wie du gekommen bist.
