Geocache Description:

A micro cache hidden at a special place – the outlet of the
Orange-Fish River Tunnel. Please bring own pen.

The cache is a white screw top container (about the size of a fist
- too small for trades) hidden outside the perimeter fence of the
outlet of the water tunnel connecting the Orange River (from Gariep
Dam) to the Fish River. The tunnel was dug from the Gariep Dam side
– and completed in 1973. It was officially commissioned in 1975
when the water was let through the tunnel from the dam to the Fish
River. The outlet is near another landmark of the region – the
Teebus Mountain.

From the R56 (Middelburg-Steynsburg road) take the
turn off to Van Vuurenskraal – a tar road. A little way from the
main road is a gate that may be closed at times – park here and go
through the pedestrian "climb through" on the right-hand side of
the gate. Hike along the road and follow the directions underneath
– you'll see two high light masts in the distance. If this first
gate is not closed, you can drive through - the tar road becomes a
gravel road and turn off left at S31°24.977 E025°38.099 – to the
farm "RAASWATER" (Noisy water). Park outside the perimeter fence
and hunt for the cache. Enjoy the hunt!!

Close-up photos are added
to this listing - they were taken while I was accompanied by a very
friendly official from Water Affairs – I was very fortunate to meet
him there. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE FENCED OFF AREA!!!
