The cache is situated in The Dingle, which is a wooded glade
with some interesting sandstone formations in Lumb Brook Valley
near Appelton.
One of the first descriptions of this area is found in the
Doomsday Book. “Epletune”, it says, “was and is waste and has a
wood there half a league long and forty perches broad.” In modern
terms that would be approximately one and a half miles long by two
hundred yards wide and could be a reference to the Dingle. One of
its more modern uses is as part of a cross country course for the
school Mrs P attended!
I think it’s only fair to add that in order to find
"X" you will probably need help from someone. The rule is:
Only ask someone for help who has found x but not X.
As this is such a “simple” series, I thought I should make
things more interesting by offering a bottle of champagne to the
first person to complete both caches in the series, x and X, within
24 hours. I should add that there are certain conditions that will
become apparant to win the champagne and as at 5.2.06 no-one has
won it.
So you don’t head off on a wild goose chase, before you go
looking for the latter cache, check the picture below which was
taken near the location of X.
