Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a small state picnic area by the Camp Verde Creek. The cache is a small pickle jar container heavily camouflaged.
PLEASE REPLACE THE CONTAINER CAREFULLY SO THE NEXT CACHER CAN REACH IT.

Camp Verde was established by the U. S. Army in 1856 to evaluate the use of camels in the south west for scouting and to carry supplies for the military.
Though they were successful at both jobs, they were determined to be unsuitable as they frightened horses and the local populace.
See htpp://www.drumbarracks.org/original%20website/Camel%corps.html for more information.
This park is heavily used in good weather, so please use stealth to prevent muggling.
Visit the Camp Verde General Store and Post Office while at the park.
An interesting addendum to the story can be found at (visit link)
and at geocache site GCG1HB "Hi Jolly".
Hi Jolly, the anglecized name of Haidji Ali, an Arabian camel driver from Syria who was brought to the United States by the U.S. Army as a camel driver and to train the military on the use and care of the camels.
After the Army terminated it's experiment, the camels were sold to an entrepreneur in Quartzsite, Arizona. Hi Jolly remained with the camels until his death, and is entombed at a memorial in his and the camels honor there.
