Cache container is a 50 cal ammo box. 5/8 mile round trip up moderate slope.
This is a second try with this location. Container was muggled so I thought I better try a different spot. Same history lesson but I made it a little more physically challenging.
This cache is located near the reclaimed mine area that used to feed the Clymer Brick and Fire Clay Company. Some of the buildings remain and are occupied by Whipstock although all of the kilns are gone. In 1908 they started making bricks and other clay products here using the fire clay trapped under the vein of coal at this mine. The coal was used to fire the factory's boiler. By late 1908 they were producing 70,000 bricks a day using electricity from a plant on the property. At one time there were over 300 people working here making it the largest brick-works in the state. Production continued until 1977 when technology and the declining steel market made their product obsolete.
I recommend taking the old gas well road about a 1/4 mile further south (N40 40.129, W078 59.515).
