This cache is located near a state monument on Highway 173 half way between Bandera and Kerrville. The container is a camoflaged ammo can.
I placed this cache near where a previous cache was archived due to muggling and construction. The Jack Hayes and the Comanches story is very important to this area, as he was one of the first Texas Rangers commissioned in Texas. The original purpose of the Rangers was to fight indians and protect the settlers. The southern end of the Comanche Indian hunting area was at the range of hills in which this pass is located.
Jack Hayes was a fierce fighter and participated in the slaughter of several Comanche chiefs and warriors who came to a peace treaty meeting in San Antonio. When the Commanches refused to accept the terms of the treaty, they were all killed before they could leave the meeting.
Bandera Pass was an important communication link to the north and west out of San Antonio, Texas.
