Park in the Lake Curtis lot off Stony Hill Road. Enter trail in the far back by the gate. What a beautiful walk!
The Curtis' were a well known family in the Hartwood section of the county beginning in the early 1800's. Originally, "Hartwood" was not a segment of Stafford, but a vast plantation owned by Arthur Morson in 1734-1798. The Quakers were some of the first to buy up the dvided plantation, and were none-to-thrilled to find that much of the land was rocky (hence the name Stony Hill Rd). Working with what they had, their homes were made of stone. When the Quakers decided to resettle in Ohio, the Curtis' bought the land in 1830. During the Civil War, this area was occupied by Union troops, where they used local barns as field hospitals.
