This cache is at the site of First Ward Memorial Pool, the first public pool ever constructed in Binghamton. I spent countless summer afternoons in the 1960's at this pool with my next door neighbor Jean - swimming, sunning ourselves on the deck, eating blue slush, and trying to work up the courage to leap off the high dive (yeap, I finally did it!) Over the years, wear and tear took a significant toll on what was inarguably the best pool in the area. By the mid-1990’s, the City of Binghamton had to close the sun deck, and they said it was no longer cost effective to rehabilitate the facility. Sadly the City pushed the pool over in 2014.
