Geocache Description:

The sign down the hill claims to be the City Limits of Mercuryville. But, this is the original location of the town - according to most older maps.

This is where it really was, or so the legend goes. The road you just drove up that will continue to the Geysers was once the Stage Coach route. It's a shame that the road west of here is closed - it leads out to Geyser Peak. Along this road one could find mercury mines, astronomy platforms, FCC antennae, and beer-guzzling party spots.

The road east, which is also closed, goes up to Rattlesnake Fire Trail. We hope that the State eventually reclaims this territory and makes it into a park. Then we could all enjoy this wonderful, wild area. This cache is just a little bit off of the road, not past any fences, gates or No Trespassing signs. A bit of CITO is often necessary, since partiers seem to be incapable of carrying a bottle back to their 4x4s.

Enjoy the views, and some all-but-forgotten history. At night, watch for the UFOs!

September, 2007: Thanx to TeamAlamo & jellis50 for replacing the cache. Nice to know someone was up there CITO'ing, tho! (Oh, and the clue was a Ren & Stimpy reference - what rhymes with dog?)

April, 2022 - Thanx to Loqrotimus for replacing the cache again. The original area burned in one of the wildfires up here, so I've updated the cache page.
