Another "old school" cache
- a nice hike, an easy find, and cool swag!
The hike is about 3 miles round trip, and takes you to the shore
of Deep Pond in the Arcadia
Management Area. Parking coordinates are provided below. There
is space for just one or two cars.
After parking, head south on the laurel lined dirt lane for
about 0.5 miles until you reach waypoint T1. Take the trail marked
Deep Pond Trail down to the cache. Along the way, you will
encounter
stone cairns on either side of the trail starting at about
point P1. Watch for the signs for Dye Hill/Brushy Brook Trail at
T2. There is a small trail to the left, with a very small sign
labelled Deep Pond. Take that trail down to the cache. After
signing in and making a trade, continue on the short way to the
water's edge before returning.
This trail is described nicely in Ken Weber's More Walks
and Rambles in Rhode Island. This book is no longer in
print, but several of the local libraries have copies.
Maps are available at DEM's Website. Be sure to
let someone know where you are headed, and bring a cellphone. An
emergency card such a
this one is also a good idea.
All users of state management areas, and all
hunters statewide, must wear at least 200 square inches of solid
daylight-fluorescent orange material from the first Saturday of
October through the end of the season, February 28.Additional
information for Turkey Season!
