This should be an easy pick up for travelers passing through on Rt. 35. Follow the signs to the nearby hospital or use the coordinates below to get to the parking area. I drive this route regularly and have been disappointed that there are so few caches along the way. Now we have one! Cache is a small ammo can and I hope to keep it stocked with plenty of loot. This should be a good Travel Bug Depot for those moving them along.
Do not attempt to access this cache from the highway. There is parking at the head of the Charles E. Holzer, Jr. Memorial Trail (38*50.858/082*14.335). The lot can be crowded M-F between 8am & 5pm because this is where many employees of the nearby hospital park…but there is almost always a spot near the trail head since it is farthest from the hospital. Be sure to follow the trail to this cache! The bushwhacking involved otherwise would be painful. It is an easy walk up and around a gentle hill on a well kept trail that starts as gravel until you reach the radio tower and turns to grass. You will even find a couple of benches along the way, including one close enough to the cache to sign the log and check out the booty.
This trail was created in memory of the late Dr. Holzer whom the neighboring hospital and clinic were named for. The trail is well kept, but rarely used...I know because I can see where it starts from my office. You shouldn’t have to worry too much about muggles on the trail itself. Look for the Geocaching logo in my office window and give a wave when you pass through.
