Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates will take you to the Sandakan Memorial which honours the Australian and British prisoners of war transported to Sandakan .

S 36° 44 A (A = the number of kilometres marched to Ranau - 45)
E 144° 16 B (B = the number who died of ill treatment +35)

This will lead you to a waypoint near to a building which still has a close affiliation to our armed services. The nearby railway line has a now dismantled spur line going into the factory. This line was used to transport items such as tanks and cannons to the Welshford State Forest where they were “proved” by firing a round into a bunker still located at the rear of the Bendigo Pistol Club. The factory is also home to the “Bushmaster” a troop support vehicle with a top speed of over 100 kmh.

The waypoint will then lead you to the cache nearby.

The cache is a regular systema containing log book and swaps.

Take care if doing this one at night - the ground is uneven in places.
