We hid this cache near our son’s Boy Scout troop’s campsite at this year’s Trappers Rendezvous. If there is no water in the creek it is a very short hike, but the banks of the creek are pretty steep. You can approach the cache from the south to avoid crossing the creek. There is poison ivy in the area, as well as ticks and probably a snake or two in the summer time. The cache is a cammo gallon size Rubbermaid container with miscellaneous items for trade.
Trappers Rendezvous is an annual campout at Harvey County West Park that draws thousands of Boy Scouts from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri each year. January 2007 will mark the 30th year for the event. The event is a re-enactment of what wilderness life was like back in the early 1800s. Mountain men teach the boys to shoot muzzle loaders, throw tomahawks, start a fire with flint and steel, and other “mountain man” skills. Items such a furs, antlers, knives, and handmade items are traded. It’s quite a sight to see.
