First Time I Met the Blues Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Professor Shorthair: I was in the area today, and stopped by to check on this cache. It's gone. That makes me sad - even though I'm not really actively geocacaching anymore, this was one of my favorites.

Geocache Description:

A blues-themed cache in a county park.

The cache is not located at the above coordinates, but they will take you to a good place to park. From there you will need to walk .16 miles to the cache. You can park closer, but I recommend parking at the posted coordinates - it makes a nice little walk. You can find the cache location by answering the question found below.

“First time I met the blues, I was walking in the woods.”

That’s a line from a blues song by the great Buddy Guy. If you go walking in these woods you can meet the blues in the form of a cache which pays tribute to a great American musical style. The blues were born out of poverty and oppression, but the impact of this music was so strong that it formed the backbone of jazz, rock and roll, and country music. Even classical music has been touched by the blues: Copland, Ravel, and Milhaud have all written pieces influenced by the blues. The blues are often thought of as being sad music, but blues songs can also be sly, funny, or sexy. The blues can also be some of the best good-time party music you’ve ever heard or danced to.

The cache is loaded with blues CDs, a B. B. King DVD, and some non-blues items for those not interested in the theme. You do not have to leave blues-themed items in the cache, and you do not have to trade even in order to take a blues item. This cache is all about spreading the blues around. I’ll visit occasionally and leave more blues items.

To find the cache, answer one simple question about the blues:

How many songs did the great Robert Johnson record? Don’t count alternate takes of the same song.

Your answer will be a two-digit number: AB.
B – A = C.
(A + B) - 11 = D.

The cache coordinates are:

33 51.CDC
084 12.CAA.

Depending on where you park, the terrain rating could be higher or lower. Please recover the cache carefully. Good hunting!

“Hey, hey; the blues is all right!”
