Geocache Description:

Woods road with some fairly steep terrain coming out but will be very enjoyable.

The Civilian Conservation Corps was an organization formed in the 1930's by Franklin Delano Roosevelt as part of his New Deal to eleviate some of the effects of the Great Depression. CCCmen built roads, cleared brush, drained wetlands, built buildings and bridges and otherwise cleared and developed wild lands for use by the public both for development and for use as parklands. Hundreds of thousands of young men as well as World War I veterans, gained skills, discipline and experience as well as money in this great organization which was in existance from 1933 till mid World War II.
.
This is the NUMBER ONE cache of SEVEN that have been placed along a Civilian Conservation Corp road that was built back in the depression. It goes from Cheaha Scenic Drive thru the Talladega National Forest to Oxford and is limited to only foot traffic or bicycle. You will notice that off road vehicles have used the road, but law enforcement strictly enforces this area to stop the abuse of the land.

This is a beautiful area and you will definately need to bring your camera. The walk down into the valley is very easy but the walk back out will be fairly difficult. It would be best if you go prepared for this extended hike. The Crow Fly mileage is .88 but with the curves and up and downs be prepare to walk one way at least 1 1/2 miles. This will be a great hike and one you will be glad you made when you get to Cheaha Mountain CC # 1 cache which will make you want to just sit down and enjoy nature for awhile. Clear mountain water, sand bars, rocks, ledges, and much more to see and mess around with. This is only a section of the road and if you continued about four miles you would come out very close to Friendship Community in Oxford.

There is a total of SEVEN different caches in this series and each will be logged as separate caches. The requirements are that you must fine NUMBER ONE first and then you will find all the Coordinates to the other SIX caches written on the log and on the lid of the container. All of these Caches will be called CHEAHA MOUNTAIN CC ROAD and will go from number one to number 7. In reality the first to find CHEAHA MOUNTAIN CC # 1 could have 7 first time finds. Each cache will have a log and must be signed.

Please allow at least 3 hours for this series of caches....could be worked at night but could be dangerous due to bluffs, downed trees and other dangers.

After you find the # 1 cache the other caches will be on your way back up......go slow and look carefully.....pay attention to hints and allow for GPS errors of 25 to 45 ft. because this area it is sometimes difficult to get an accurate reading. Clues should help out a great deal. I wouldn't want you to have to walk all the way down and have a bunch of NO Finds, so read the clues.

Cheaha Mountain CC Road # 2 thru Cheaha Mountain CC Road # 7 Coordinates will be the same as Cheaha Mountain CC Road #1 ........YOU MUST FIND { Cheaha Mountain CC Road # 1 } to get the coordinates for # 2 thru # 7.

Watch for my favorite color....YELLOW...unlisted cache!
E-mail me what you find for a smiley!! There is a log!

If you have any problems let me know.

Parking will be: 33 30.374N 085 45.692W
