Rest area off SH 47 ... this takes you over Pihanga mountain to caches at Rotopounamu and Rotoaira... onward to Tongariro National Park, Whakapapa skifield, National Park township, Ohakune and Turoa skifield
This fantastic lookout has a magnificent view across lake Taupo.
There are picnic tables... stealth and patience is required as this is muggle-central on a fine weekend.
You can shield your furtive activities from the muggles by parking right next to the cache... hee hee...hint hint :-)
XenaCommander rested here on his first long-ish cycle ride.... Technokitten prised him off his beloved BMW tourer motorbike (Xena) on the promise that he would benefit immensely from the 6km hillclimb. XC was not entirely convinced of this particular concept while puffing and steaming toward the top of the hill... but the yahoos and huge grin on the downhill run more than made up for the hard slog up :-)
