Hail To The Chiefs Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Muirwoody: I've decided to archive this one. It's never been the same since one of the statues went missing. If you've been working on finishing this one, I'll let you log a "found it" (if the archived cache page even will accept new logs). Send me your solution to the final coordinates and a photo of your GPSr at any of the statues by the end of August, 2010. I'll delete other found logs that don't comply. Thanks to everyone who went through the trouble to complete this cache. With all of the other easier ones out there....your dedication was appreciated. Hope you had a good time.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This is an 8-stage multi-cache. The first 7 stages will take you to statues of various U.S. Presidents where you will need to write down some information you find there. Using that information, you will calculate the coordinates to the final cache – stage 8 – an 18 oz. Lock-N-lock with the logbook and trade items, including a FTF prize – a Geocoin.

The listed coordinates are for Statue #1. The statues are listed starting from the one with the farthest west coordinates in the city going to the one with the farthest east coordinates. The first 5 statues are within a 1-mile roundtrip walk of each other in downtown Indianapolis. The last two statues will require you to drive other places in the city. You do not need to do the statues in any particular order. Take the time to look at some of the detail of the statues (front and back), particularly #s 2, 5 and 7.

Statue #1: What year was the statue created? (Use the date on the plaque, after the title of the sculpture) = variable “A”
Statue #2: He was President #___ = variable “B” (no need to walk on the grass)
Statue #3: 1812 to _____ Missing date is variable “C”
Statue #4: What year was it erected? = variable “E” (yes, I mean E)
Statue #5: What year was the statue created? = variable “D” (plaque is 10’ NE)
Statue #6: Effective 9/13/2007: This statue has been removed, maybe until Spring 2008. In the meantime the answer is 12 = variable “F”
Statue #7: In what year did Hal Bailey die? = variable “G” (daylight hours only at this statue)

Final cache is at 39 W.X 86 0Y.Z

W = (A – 1918)
X = (B + C) – 1018
Y = (D – E) – 20
Z = (F + G) – 1245

Caches like this that require finding data and plugging it into a formula seem to have problems sometimes. I have tried to predict all the different scenarios that you may find and what you may interpret things to be – but I may have overlooked some obvious problem. Please contact me if you are having any difficulties with the numbers and I’ll see if there is a problem. I know it’s a time-consuming cache; I hope when it’s all done we can still be friends!!
