This cache can only be found in the DARK OF THE NIGHT! The darker
the better. You'll be following small reflective tacks in a zig-zag
course throughout Montgomery Park. This route is extremely
difficult to follow in daylight as the tacks would be hard to find.
Be sure to bring a strong flashlight.
The round-trip hike is about a half mile and should take a half
hour or less. By the way, the park is closed from 10 PM to 6 AM, so
plan your trip accordingly. Also, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE WHEN
IT IS RAINING as the nearby arroyos can be deadly.
The coordinates listed above are your starting point. The actual
cache is hidden somewhere else in the park. You'll be looking for
reflective tacks with your flashlight along the route to the cache.
(A sample reflector tack is on the power pole at the starting
point.) Keep following these reflectors throughout the park until
you see the two orange reflectors. Once you're standing under the
orange reflectors, you're in the vicinity of the cache.
OK. Now that you've found and logged the cache, you're probably
wondering how the heck do you find your way back to the car? It's
so dark out here ... and scary. Oh, no! You won't be able to
follow the reflective tacks anymore as they are all on the wrong
side of the trees!
Out of ideas? Try one of these:
1. Use the Trackback feature of your GPS, that is, assuming you
cleared your active track when you started hiking. You may feel
more secure by periodically entering waypoints in your GPS as you
wend your way toward the cache. Hint: You can check to determine if
you're on the course by looking back over your shoulder to see the
reflectors.
2. Do a Go To for the starting point. It is programmed into your
GPS, isn't it?
3. Find the nearest street and then circumnavigate around the park
until you come to your car. But which way do you turn when you
first reach a street, right or left?
4. Leave a popcorn trail as you enter. Hopefully no critters have
been following you.
Good luck, and enjoy your adventure in the DARK OF THE NIGHT. If
you enjoyed this cache, be sure to check out the original
Dark of the Night that's on the other
side of the mountains.
