Geocache Description:

Located on the former Green Bay and Western railroad right-of-way. Now a county rec trail. It is a climb.

April 12, 1866 was the date that the charter was granted to create the Green Bay and Western Railroad. This trail once hosted 2 through freights a day. One headed east and one headed west. The end came when the Green Bay and Western was purchased by the Wisconsin Central in 1993. The rails where lifted shortly after in favor of the WC's better maintained line to the south. You can hear trains running on the WC to the south. It makes a person look twice to see if there is a train coming.

There are some nice hills and deep cuts through this area. It must have been a nice ride for passengers when the GBW was still operating passenger trains through here between Green Bay and East Winona.

Please make sure to rehide and "secure" the cache as good as when you found it. You will know what I mean by "Secure" when you find it.
