Geocache Description:

Welcome to the land where legends speak of great floods and volcanic flows. This is great country to take your dog for a walk while taking in some good vistas. You might want to wear waterproof boots in the wetter months. Have fun. Afterall, this land belongs to you.

To solve this puzzle, you will need to do learn about Kakuro. A Kakuro consists of a playing area of filled and empty cells similar to a crossword puzzle. The gray cells contain a diagonal slash from top left to bottom right with numbers in them. A number in the top right corner tells you what the “across” sum should be while the number in the bottom left tells you what the “down” sum should be.

The object of this puzzle is to insert digits from 1-9 into the white cells to create the sums (the little numbers in the diagonal boxes). However, no digit can be duplicated in an entry. For example, to find the sums of “12” (shown in box B2) you could have 2&3&7 or 3&4&5 (and another five other possible solutions) in the 3 boxes across from “12”, but NOT 4&4&4 (no duplicates!)

To help you get started, note the “3” in box A4. This means the two boxes below “3” must sum to 3. It’s either going to be 1&2, or 2&1 (no zeros).

Next you will fill in the following: N 47 _ _._ _ _, 117 _ _._ _ _. You will notice that the puzzle here has both blue and yellow shades in certain boxes. Because Kakuro does not allow for zero’s, and the cache coordinates DO include zero’s, you will use the yellow boxes that hold the 0’s. These can be thought of as “freebies”. Enter them in the right sequence and you’re good to go. The blue boxes contain the other coordinates you’ll need (ten total). The sequence is left to right by row; i.e., at the end of each row go down to the next row and continue left to right. You are smart. You’ll figure it out and be a happy geocacher by day’s end. I hope so anyway...

P.S. The listed coordinates are for suggested parking. You can park here or on the old Sprague Highway. To print just the puzzle, right-click the image with your mouse, click "view image" and then print it.
