Referred to by the locals as "The Big Rock", this landmark
on the shore of the Northumberland Strait in Arisaig is also known
as The Frenchman's Barn after a French ship was
wrecked there in the 17th century. As the legend goes, these
sailors were caught up in a North Easter and mistook the huge
building shaped rock as a barn and a place to take shelter. After
smashing their boat on the rocks, survivors were met by unfriendly
natives where they met their doom.
