Short, easy walk around the village of Bishopstrow, plenty of
wildlife to see and some interesting bridges
IGNORE THE ABOVE CO-ORDINATES!!
Co-ordinates revised July 15th 2006, after the tree containing the
micro fell over, and on top of the micro itself.
Suggested parking is at N51 11.577 W 002 09.149 This is located
adjacent to the Church of St Aldhelm in Bishopstrow.
The reference to the Bishop's Tree has been connected to the
'Biscepes truue', mentioned by William of Malmesbury as the place
where St Aldhelm's staff miraculously grew into an ash tree. The
church is lovely and worth a look – just look at the hinges on the
church door. Visit this cache on a summer Sunday and you might see
a cracking game of village cricket on the green: and we may just be
watching it!
Park at the suggested co-ordinates and look for a nearby plaque,
label it thus:
ab 'years of peace'
cd/e/fghi 'donated by the village'
The final cache is at:
51. cf.(i+f)(c+f)(h-c)
002. be.(d)(i-f)(a-f)
this is quite a short distance away but if you would like a lovely
walk through the village, follow the co-ordinates in the title to
where the original micro was located, the tree has fallen over now
unfortunately, carry on to the end of the footpath, turn right and
over the road, following the footpath past the hotel.
A short distance further on you'll see another footpath sign which
will lead you, over some interesting bridges, to the main cache.
(be careful crossing the roads)
You should see an assortment of birds and beasts on this walk –
kingfishers are often spotted, the swans are back, and depending on
what time you visit you may encounter a badger or two. Once found
you can carry on the path which will lead you back to your start
point, or if you are feeling energetic you could walk on to Walks
and Views Galore-ious (GCJNFP), which would be about 2-3 hours
round trip, or pop down to Afternoon Fun in Wiltshire (GCJT8F)
which is not too far away.
