World famous Hat Creek rises from Paradise Meadows near Lassen Peak and drops dramatically on its way to join the Pit River north of here. We hope you'll enjoy this short walk to see some of our favorite cascades.
You might be able to drive closer to this ammo can cache (Please don't, the water is cold!), but we enjoyed our hike from N 40 41.553 W 121 25.249 . From here there is NO NEED to cross the creek on logs, ice bergs, or tyrolean traverses!!
The cache site was burned in the Sugarloaf Fire of August 2009. The Lassen Loafers report all is well and intact. Visit and watch the changes over the coming years. Meanwhile the creek flows on and on... The log crossing used by many cachers is no longer a viable option.
