In new wooded area, level terrain, can be a little muddy in places when wet.
On 29/4/09 sjjuk reported "found by accident by local Cubs while exploring the wood". We have been to spot where cache should be and it isn't there, so maybe the Cubs did their best and hid it close to where they found it. It is possible that it had been moved from its original site and was found by them a long way from where it should have been. Because of this we have been back, and found that where the cache should be there was just the usual pile of little cachers' sticks. So we have hidden a replacement cache (in a smaller clipsided box this time with the usual collection of small bibs and bobs) in a new location, one that is not very far from the original site. If you get lucky you might find the original cache box as well as the new one! Before the cache went missing it apparently contained TravelBug Phone Home and Scaws Geocoin - but if the original box is found maybe they will still be there. If so could the finder please put them in the new cache box and report it on the site?
The new cache is under tree cover, which makes for difficulties in using a GPS, so the co-ordinates given are for a spot on the footpath (track really) that is just a few yards from the cache. From here go straight under the trees and you, as a cacher, will know where to look.
The cache is located in Warneage Wood in Wanborough. This is part of the Great Western Community Forest, a collection of newly created woods around the Swindon Area. Warneage Wood was planted in 1994-1995. It has a very nice mix of open grassland, very old hedges and newly planted trees. There are lots of (grass) paths. Warneage Wood is a wonderful place in decent weather to bring children as there is ample space to run around and play ball.
The wood has several entrances but we suggest the pull-in space for three or four cars at the corner at the south-western end of Rotten Row (marked on Explorer Ordnance Maps) where it takes a right-angled turn into the road called Kite Hill that leads to Upper Wanborough. Right next to the pull-in is an entrance to the woods. Another possibility is to park alongside the road on the northern side of Warneage Wood - the narrow road widens just west of The Cross Keys and should be OK for short term parking. This is the quickest way to get to the cache.
After you have signed the log please push the box well back to try to keep it dry and also to foil any future cache mugglers.
