Geocache Description:

A chance to pretend to be part of the crew

"Captain Pugwash and the Huge Reward" is essential reading for anyone visiting Rye. But most of the books feature Rye as well.

Virtually all the illustrations are sketches of sites in the town, particularly the church, castle, land gate, pump and water cistern, as well as the Mermaid Inn and other old buildings.

The exact site of this cache doesnt quite feature but its near enough. John Ryan who wrote the Pugwash books is still alive ( just ) and lives in a house just 100 yards from the cache near the church.

  • Do please replace the cache so that its NOT visible at all, even standing on the stone seat, as this particular location is a haunt of the local teenagers (see various logs).
  • Good parking near the playgrounds below the cache.
