Lost Paradise: Rochester fall Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Fish Eagle: This cache appears to be gone, and it seems to have become commercial in natue due to having to pay the locals which is not in the essence of geocaching.
It seems unlikely that it will be sorted out soon, so I'm archiving it.
If the cache is replaced, preferrably in a different location where cacher can hunt unhindered by locals, then please contact me to re-enable this listing.
Thanks for the past fun.

Geocache Description:

Rochester waterfall is located near the southern coast of Mauritius. You will need a car/taxi to get there but the visit is worth the effort. The roads are a bit bumpy but there are plenty of signs showing the way.

The cache is a round box with a diameter of around 20 cm.
It has a green lid and it is hidden near the waterfall. It is close to the path going to the top of the waterfall but on higher ground. Normally you can only see the sign if you know what you are looking for, but be aware of the native people who have settled there. They jump from the cliff into the little lake and beg for money if you film them. They can be quite annoying, so try not to draw their attention when you are looking for the cache. The cache is well hidden but it can be reached easily (take care near the edge though). Beware the mosquitos!

The area is full of natural beauties and interesting formations. The organ-pipe shaped basalt columns near the waterfall and the signs of lava balls revealed by erosion from the red /probably rich in bauxite/ earth near the road are really spectacular. Complete lava-cannonballs are looking out of the earth wall and you can see the several layers around it as the hot lavaball slammed into the soil, melting it and creating layers as it cooled down. Really interesting.

***Update 2009***
Latest logs report about the alarming behaviour of the locals... Since the area is really worth visiting I do not intend to disable the cache but leave it up to you if it is worth finding the box or not. A simple image of yourself in front of the waterfall will be just enough to prove your visit.
