The 3rd Geo Cache along the former Green Bay and Western Railroad right-of-way which is now a rec trail.
April 12, 1866 was the date that the charter was granted to create the Green Bay and Western Railroad. This trail once hosted 2 through freights a day. One headed east and one headed west. The end came when the Green Bay and Western was purchased by the Wisconsin Central in 1993. The rails where lifted shortly after in favor of the WC's better maintained line to the south. You can hear trains running on the WC to the south. It makes a person look twice to see if there is a train coming.
Parking for this cache is located at N44 27.731 W089 16.916. There is a fee if you ride a bike. Otherwise it's free if you walk.
This road bed has been here for a long time as you can see from the 1915 builders stamp on the bridge crossing the Tomorrow river. It must have been a nice ride for passengers when the GBW was still operating passenger trains through here between Green Bay and East Winona.
Please make sure to rehide and "secure" the cache as good as when you found it. You will know what I mean by "Secure" when you find it.
When your done there is a great little coffee shop in town called "Gotta Hava Java" located at N44 27.048, W089 17.082. The wife and I have lunch there from time to time and it is served from 11 to 2.
