Getting the Goose is a 50 cache
series that begins in Round Rock and ends in Red Rock right outside
of Bastrop (about 60mi overall). My daughter (the Goose) goes
to her mother's house for visitation, and this is the route that we
take when we go get her... hence "Getting the Goose". All of
the hides are 35mm film containers except for one magnetic (you'll
know that one right away). The style of the hides are fairly
consistent throughout. For the hides that you have to pull
off the road, there is plenty of room off the road to retrieve the
cache safely. I placed the containers with all of the
adolescent members of GeoMire in tow, so this is a kid safe
series.
This is a
TIME-SERIES!
Since we were always trying to get
the Goose in the least amount of time, we're curious how long it
takes everyone else... If you are going to run the entire
series at once, please post your times so we can see who is the
Fastest to Get the Goose! I will periodically update the
fastest time on the #50
page.
Posting Your Time:
The
time starts when you find Getting the Goose #1.
Take a picture of your GPS with the time showing at Getting the
Goose #1
Take a picture of your GPS with the time showing at Getting the
Goose #50
Post your time with both pictures on Getting the Goose #50
If you can't take a picture for some reason, just mark a waypoint
at Getting the Goose #1, then another mark at #50. You can
post the pictures of your GPS with the marks showing the
time.
You can use the Goose Time Calculator below to help figure out
total times.
Below you will find a link to a zip
file with a .gpx (GSAK) and a .kmz (GoogleEarth) file. The
.kmz file will go right into GoogleEarth and show exact locations
for the entire series. The .gpx file can be used to load up
in GSAK or whatever to save you a pocket query.

ArmadilloJakyl with 2hrs 5min 55sec on 2/19/06 (OMG
it's a flying ArmadilloJakyl)
Note: Scoured photos with Photoshop and could find no
evidence of "goose-tampering". Never knew armadillos or jakyls
could fly… much less an ArmadilloJakyl. The phrase
“When pigs fly” has now kinda lost its emphasis for
me.

UPDATE 2011
Ah yes.... rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. As
you can plainly see (or read) I am very much alive, and cache every
Thursday with my good friend HiDude_98.
It was most curious when I heard my daughter
and/or x-wife started telling cachers at GTG#50 that I was dead.
BTW, GTG#50 is near the driveway where my daughter (The Goose)
lived with her mom, and I would drive to pick her up on visitation
days.
The Goose is 18 now and I don't drive to my
x-wife's house anymore to pick her up, so I very much appreciate
anyone who voluntarily maintains the caches.
