Geocache Description:

Derny stitek / Punch Card

Vyse uvedene souradnice Vas privedou pred vysokou budovu, ktera tvori dominantu severozapadni casti Prahy a je videt ze sirokeho okoli. POZOR: Cache na techto souradnicich nenajdete!! Kdysi (nejen) zde sidlila instituce s velmi vznosnym jmenem: VUMS - Vyzkumny Ustav Matematickych Stroju.

V sedmdesatych a osmdesatych letech nasledoval vyvoj JSEP (Jednotny system elektronickych pocitacu - salove pocitace) a ve spolupraci s VUT Brne minipocitace ADT. Krome navrhu vlastnich pocitacu zde probihal i siroky vyvoj periferii (tiskarny, plotry) a samozrejme i programu: operacnich systemu a grafickych aplikaci. V osmdesatych letech tu radu roku pracoval i autor cache ;-).

The above coordinates will bring you to the high building which is quite dominant to the north-west part of Prague and which could be seen from many places around. ATTENTION: There is no cache at those coordinates!! Many years ago this building was occupied by an institution with very honorable name: Research Institute of Mathematical Machines. This research institute had a very long and rich history: the very first Czechoslovak relay computer M1 was created here back in 1952, vacuum tube computer EPOS 1 followed in 1963, very successful computer DP100 in 1965 and very interesting transistor computer EPOS 2 was created in 1968. In the seventies and eighties there was a massive development of JSEP computers and ADT minicomputers. Also many peripheral devices were developed here as well as software: operating systems and graphical applications.

Today, all this is gone, the research institute does not exist anymore. Still, I was able to find a very interesting punch card (see above) in its archive, which will lead you to the big and quite rich cache ;-).

Good luck!
