"Strange New World" Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Scrudder: As far as I know, this container is still in its proper hiding place. That being said, the next time I am in the area I will pick it up to use in another location. It's been around for a long twelve years, but it's time to let someone else come in with another good hide. If there's someone out there that would like the container, go get it, log the find if you don't have the smiley on this one yet, and then email me that you have the container in your possession. Use it well, hide it well, and enjoy the "logs" that people leave you on it.

Geocache Description:

Traditional cache on the campus at Brookhaven.

In the third episode of the Star Trek: Enterprise series, titled "Strange New World" the Enterprise crew discovers a planet that in appearances resembles earth. Captain Archer leads an away team and they all enjoy a day of exploration. Several members of the crew request permission to camp overnight on the planet surface, and Captain Archer grants their request. The results of the campout make for a rather interesting and definitely unexpected situation that seems to threaten the safety of the crew.

I learned about GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and later about geocaching, while taking a class at EMGI, Brookhaven. My original intent was to take a 6 hour course that could be used to cover the GT requirement that CF-BISD has for teacher continued education. I saw this GIS course as an interesting way to get around the system. If I'd only known... In the past two years since I took the course, I have directly used the information from that class in my own classroom more than any other information I've received in inservice training. I didn't know what kind of "Strange New World" I was getting into when I started learning about GIS.

This cache has been hidden on the Brookhaven college campus, not too near the building where I learned about GIS and Geocaching. This is peaceful area, and just waiting to be explored by geocachers and geomuggles alike. Parking is unfortunately not close, but the walk is not too difficult. When placing this cache I parked near the tennis courts on the east side of the campus, though there is parking on the west side as well. The container has room for small trade items, but is not water tight. Please make sure the lid is put back on the container properly.
