Frodo Baggins, with the support and encouragement of Sam
Gimgee, his loyal companion, were beginning to run low of supplies
on the road to Moridor. Sam Gimgee was starting to get a little
concerned about this, especially in light of the fact that he
suspected that Gollum had some very dark and personal plans for
them.
From a
distance, the wise Elrond saw their plight. Sensing their plight,
he and Erowen prepared several containers of refreshment to be
distributed along their journey. Each container was prepared by
Erowen such that it would glow green, silver, or white as one in
the fellowship would approach the food cache, otherwise the
container would remain grey or black. Here are the containers
provided by Erowen:
The
Enchanted Ammo Box
The Elemental Tupperware Container
The Elusive Glass Jar
The Intrepid Plastic Jar
The Basic Bison Tube
Elrond sent out Merry and
Pippen to place the containers of magical refreshment. They eagerly
accepted their task, well aware of the certain doom that awaited
them if the servants of the Dark Lord captured them. They scattered
these caches along the trail to Mt. Doom. Upon their return,
Gandolf requested the locations of each of these caches so that
word could be sent to our heros, as to the whereabouts of their
refreshment. Unfortunately, Merry and Pippen completely forgot to
record these locations. Gandolf consoled these poor hobbits, and
told them that there was still yet deep magic he could conjure to
get this information to their friends. Gandolf conjured and
mystical manuscript and sent it to our heros in the talons of one
of the noble eagles.

Meanwhile on the trail to
Mt. Doom, things were getting desperate for our pair of heros. Food
had run out and there was no Kings and Clowns cache nearby of left
in their supply. When all looked lost, one of the noble eagles
dropped by with a note from Gandolf. Sam took the note, and the
noble eagle flew back to safety. As Sam peered upon the note, at
first there was no text. In just a moment the blanl parchment
filled with script, which read:
Never fear my dear
hobbits, for refreshment on your trail you shall find.
Unfortunately, I can not reveal to you the actual locations of
several stashes, as I am concerned that your travelling companion
Gollum may cause some trouble. Discretely proceed to the places
where these clues lead you and your refreshment you shall find.
Each of these sets of clues will lead you to refreshment on the
trail. Use your keen hobbit senses to discern the true meaning of
these clues.
Now not many have heard
this part of the story. It is rumored that Frodo and Sam never
actually had time to stop at these locations, and they may still
remain today. I, Bilbo, have found this fragment which seems to be
one of the sets of clues. Maybe you can find one of these ancient
and enchanted caches. It is believed by many that each of these
clues to be inherently true, and I would tend to agree. Good luck
to you fair traveller. May you figure out these clues and find the
treasure that lay ahead.
1. In
their natural state each of the enchanted containers is either gray
or black.
2. At least one of the containers was gray.
3. At least one of the containers was black.
4. If the Ammo Box was gray, and the Tupperware was black, then the
Glass Jar was gray.
5. If the Ammo Box was black, then the Plastic Jar was black.
6. If the Tupperware was gray, then the Plastic Jar was gray.
7. The Ammo Box and the Tupperware were not both gray.
8. Unless the Tupperware was gray, the Glass Jar was
black.
Find the
color of all the containers.... when you have this puzzle you may
answer.....
* If the
Ammo Box is black, A=4.
* If the Ammo Box is gray, A=7.
* If the Tupperware is black, B=9.
* If the Tupperware is gray, B=9.
* If the Glass Jar is black, C=7.
* If the Glass Jar is gray, C=5.
* If the Plastic Jar is black, D=6.
* If the Plastic Jar is gray, D=5.
* If the Bison Tube is black, E=1.
* If the Bison Tube is gray, E=0.
