Holmes Crossing Sandhills Ecological Reserve southwest of Fort Assiniboine.
NOTE: We're hoping to make the hike one last time this spring, with the intention of archiving this cache. If anyone gets there before we do, my old knees would really appreciate it if you would kindly bring the cache back with you. Thank you.
This is the farthest of the four caches we've hidden on the trails of this ecological reserve. Total distance to this cache and back is about 7 km. Foot traffic only. Satellite reception can be poor in the forest so you may need the hint.
There is a considerable amount of wildlife in the area, including bears, so please don't leave scented items in the cache. Cache is a medium container covered in camo tape, and contains the usual goodies, plus a FTF prize.
A short distance down the trail from the cache, at 54 16.495N 114 51.390W, are the remains of a trapper's cabin, dug into the side of the hill.
Keep your GPSr handy for the trip back to your car. There are several trails that are not marked on the map signs, and people have become seriously lost in the ecological reserve.
