Rock Bluff above new golf course in vicinity of Salmon Arm Industrial Park.
For many years there have been rumours about hot springs at Mt. Ida, near Salmon Arm. There was even talk about a possible construction of a resort. Whether this mountain really was a volcano at some time is unclear. Regarding the possible existence of hot springs, there are a number of small ponds at Mt. Ida that have relatively warm water temperatures and it has been reported that some don't freeze over during winter.
This cache is situated at one such pond.
Access is via Shaw Road and there is a parking area under the big powerline at : N50* 39.208 W119* 13.061
There is small trail at the western edge of the powerline slash and there is more gentle terrain further ahead (just across from the new golf course).
This is a tough one to find and it should only be attempted by the physically fit.
ATTENTION GPS FREAKS - When you get a reading that is different from the given coordinates, you are experiencing what is known as "hair-pin-effect". Every time, you take a reading with your instrument, the coordinates differ - in particular when you are standing still. Your receiver than "averages" and this leads to the common misunderstanding that the inital coordinates "must" be off.
But this is all not critical when you look at the given clues.
