skylanth: Hello! This cache has been put into archive status. It has been very fun and had a good run but unfortunately it has moved too close to the cliff edge and I now live 2 states away, unable to maintain the cache. Long Marine Lab is now probably without a geocache, so I encourage any hiders to place a new one on the property to help more hunters discover this hidden Santa Cruz treasure. Thanks for all the fun!

Geocache Description:

Formerly Mac's Cache, BigDog67 let me replace it with one of my own. A nice spot, this Long Marine Lab.

I spent most of my college career down here at LML, working both in a lab and at the Seymour Center visitor center. What better way to show apriciation for this place than with a geocache?

Box is a large tupperware container that is hidden NEAR but not AT the cliff's edge. There should be no need to go into any dangerous areas, but watch your kids! Please make sure that the lid is latched on securely, so that the cache remains protected from the elements.

Beware the muggles - people visit the center and take tours along where the cache is hidden - your best chance to have the place to yourself is in the morning, before the visitor center opens. The front gate should be open after 7am, or you can walk in from the end of Delaware Ave. Many people walk their dogs along this route as well. Please hide the container as you originally found it, the site is somewhat exposed to passers-by.

Long Marine Lab is a wonderful place to visit, though not many even know it's out here. The space belongs to UCSC, but California Fish and Game, NOAA, and a few other organizations have laboratory space out here as well. The visitor center is a great resource for both kids and adults, teaching about marine science and how science is done in general. They are closed on Mondays. If you visit, be sure to take the tour so you can see some of the labs and learn all about the whale skeletons.

Ah, and watch for whales - I've seen many from this very spot!
