To get the most bang-for-your-buck on this cache hunt, be sure
to bring along some stale bread or crackers for the numerous ducks,
geese, and swans that have taken up residence in this abandoned
channel of Cypress Creek. These waterfowl even have their own
private sanctuary on the large island in the middle of the lake. I
really wanted to put the cache on the island, in fact, but
the bridge is gated and locked, the signs declare "No Swimming,"
and I didn't have a boat or canoe handy at the moment, so I settled
for a slightly-less interesting hiding spot. Nonetheless, you
should have fun if you take a few moments to check out the huge
magnolia, cypress, and pine trees surrounding the lake.
You'll find plenty of parking, but be sure to park across the
street in front of the residences in order to comply with the
posted signs. Although there's no fence around the park, the
official hours are from dawn to dusk, so do not turn this into a
night caching opportunity lest you have a run-in with the private
security firm that patrols the area. Dogs are allowed if
leashed.
You'll be looking for a camouflaged BioKips
SnapWare Lock-n-Lock container holding a few nice trade items.
The previous owner had included several signature items from
Southeast Texas, including a couple that made their way over from
South Africa. Unfortunately, when the cache disappeared, these most
likely disappeared with it. The new cache has trade items, but no
doubt not as fancy. Have fun!
