Geocache Description:

"Town of Freedom"

The small town of Freedom has preserved it's old west heritage by redesigning the main street buildings typical of an early-day cowtown. The Freedom Museum offers artifacts relating to the history of the area including furniture, clothing, quilts, and much more. Located at the east end of main street, across from the jail, is the Cimarron Cowboy Monument. This monument is a 6 foot tall, 15 foot wide, 9000 pound red granite monument dedicated to the cowboys who settled the Cherokee Strip. Each fall, Freedom celebrates it's "Biggest Little Rodeo and Cowhand Reunion." This all started in 1939. Today it has staged gun fights, chuchwagon feast, and then the "Biggest Open Rodeo" in the world. It all ends with the big "street dance' held on the "main street" in Freedom, Oklahoma. Come enjoy the old west "town of Freedom." This cache is a magnetic key holder only big enough for a log sheet.
