Geocache Description:

The tale of Tam Tyrie tells of a piper, accompanied by his wife and dog, taking shelter in a cave on the coast about three miles from Arbroath. He was never seen again, but the droning of his bagpipe music was heard for for several days afterwards under the hearth of Dickmontlaw farmhouse.

The most likely reason for this tale is that it was put out by smugglers for the purpose of frightening people away, for at one time there was a good deal of smuggling hereabouts.

The cairn and especially the distinctive ring of trees at Dickmontlaw can be seen from miles away. We have easily recognised them from the top of East Lomond to the south and from Cairn O Mount to the north.

Consequently from the cache you can see The Angus hills to the north and the Fife coast and further to the south.

Parking is in the car park of the Meadowbank Inn - please dont drive up the private road.
