During the weekend of April 22-23, the North Carolina Geocachers Organization (NCGO) will be sponsoring several “Cache In Trash Out” (CITO) events throughout the state. The Cape Fear regional CITO event will be held on Sunday, April 23rd at Carolina Beach State Park, a 761-acre park full of natural diversity, history, and scenic walking trails. Even a beautiful place like this could use a little CITO help every so often!
The listed coordinates will take you to the picnic area, where we will meet at 11 AM. Refreshments (to help fuel the clean-up effort) will be provided, and, depending on the number of event participants, we will figure out how best to tackle the trash in the areas that the park rangers have identified as being in need of help. As of 4/14/06, it looks like we'll be removing trash from the shoreline along Snow's Cut and from the main camping area(time and volunteer stamina permitting).
Please bring gloves for this portion of the event! Also be aware of the fact that you may experience a run-in with any or all of the following: mosquitoes, ticks, snakes, poison ivy, etc. We will try to have bug spray and a first aid kit on-site, but the anti-venom is up to you!
After the cleanup, we'll probably have pizza or something, and enjoy the feeling of having done a good deed for an outstanding park. And did somebody mention door prizes?! NCGO and CITO geocoin giveaways?! And free Starbucks coffee?! And CITO t-shirts available at a price so low that WE CAN'T PRINT IT HERE?! We’ll update with more details as Event Day approaches, so check this page often.
