Geocache Description:

Final is a 50 cal. ammo can

Another in the series around Jabe Pond. Enjoy this Adirondack mountain hike.

The shortest and best route is Split Rock Road, which turns west from New York 9N halfway between Silver Bay and Hague NY.  The road into Jabe Pond is open to motor vehicles.   A vehicle with high clearance and four wheel drive is recommended, but alternative parking is available within a short distance. During winter months one MUST park at the designated coordinates below or risk possible issues, (this isn’t the place to test nature with your 4x4).

Remote campsites are marked.  Do your research before departing.  Be sure the vehicle is FULL of fuel and you have food, water and emergency gear.  This is rugged country, and emergency services are a considerable distance.  This is a great location for a healthy snowshoe adventure.

Fishing is allowed with ARTIFICIAL LURES ONLY!

Season; April 1-Oct 15.   12" min length.

New York State has designated carefully surveyed trails within the State Forest Preserve and State Parks for snowmobile use. As sportsmen, it is important that snowmobiles recognize their responsibility for preserving the wildness and beauty of the land their vehicles enable them to enjoy.

Please refer to "Snowmobiling in New York State", published by DEC, for specific laws and regulations governing the use of snowmobiles on state land.  This area provides miles upon miles of trails/roads for all types of off road vehicle.

How you prepare for a Hike will of course depend on your Hiking Plans.  Proper preparation is essential for your own safety, the safety of your Hiking Group and of course the enjoyment of the trip.

Word of Caution:  This is a very remote area, DO NOT expect your cell phone to be of any use.

Be aware during hunting season!
