Geocache Description:


The coordinates bring you to the entrance of a recreational sports facility in Cheektowaga, NY. If you’re in the mood, why not go in and roll a few games. This facility opened in 1958 with only 12 lanes at the time and in it’s heyday served over 125 leagues. Today the center features 60 lanes. In addition, for a long time it had the highest lineage in the world! (That’s number of lanes used and games played per day.) The American Bowling Congress was incorporated in 1895 and within 50 years it was a billion dollar industry with 12 to 16 million participants. It gained in popularity because unlike football and golf, you only needed a couple of dollars to play the sport. It became the number one participatory sport in the US with 54 million participants in 1997. But, bowling has hit a downward spiral due to lifestyle changes and increased recreational activities competing for the discretionary dollar. How many of you cacher’s are former bowlers?
