Welcome to Huntsville, The Rocket City!.

The posted coordinates are your launch point for this tour of one city block. (Speaking of launches, did you know that NASA sprays huge quantities of water on the launch pad for noise suppression?) I hope you like this “launch pad”. It should make a grate place for you to begin your quest, and you can feel free to use your "Outside" voice!

Plan on circling the block before you are done, for this cache is designed to test your powers of observation and exploration. Your search will NOT require you to violate landscaped areas, nor molest trees, plants or bushes.

No disassembly is required, so leave the sprinkler heads alone (especially the really big ones), don’t remove any manhole covers and leave all the utilities boxes alone. Everything you seek is above ground.

Let’s get started:

From the “Launch Pad” Walk 40 feet or so to the nearby structure – yes, the one with no roof and no doors. In the very center of the structure there is an object on the floor with 4 names on it. (would you believe my wife bought seven of these at $100 each?) Count the number of letters in the first 3 words and subtract the number of letters in the last word from that total. Write your answer here _____

Look around, how many bronze baskets do you see? Write your answer here _____

Walk around and explore the area a bit.

Did you find the sign with all the RULES on it? How many times was the word “NO” used? Write your answer here _____

Did you notice the old 2 story brick house on the corner? It wasn’t built there. It got in the way of an expansion project at the Coca-Cola plant back in 1991, so they moved it about 8 city blocks to its present location. You can tell the house is old by the waves in the glass window panes. How old was the house when it was moved? Write your answer here _____

Continue around the block. What is really big in diameter, real tall, has a horrible yellow complexion and gaudy blue shoes and hat? Worst of all, there’s more than one of them. How many do you see? Write your answer here _____

Continue back towards the “Launch Pad”

How many flying pig tails can you find? Write your answer here _____

How many steps do you have to climb to get to from the leapfrogging lass to “BP”? Write your answer here _____

How many steps are there between “BP” and “JKLCF”? Write your answer here _____

If you have been paying attention, by now you know how many statues are on this block. Go ahead and recount them to be sure. Write your answer here _____

How many fish are on a Reuben? Write your answer here _____

I’m sorry, before I sent you off counting fish, I meant to ask you, how many jets are on the “Launch Pad”? Write your answer here _____

What year will the stainless steel vault be opened? Write your answer here _____

How many 180 ° arcs crown the vault? Write your answer here _____

Big Brother has been watching. From the “Launch Pad” how many surveillance cameras are there on the CORNER of the stucco building? Write your answer here _____

Now, let’s do something with all this raw data! Your final objective (the cache log) is on this block, so all you need is the minutes portion of the coordinates, agreed? Use the defined operations below to fill in the coordinates:

N 34° 4 A . B C D’          W 86° 3 E . F G H’

N 34° 4 _ . _ _ _’          W 86° 3 _ . _ _ _’

Where:

“A” = SUBTRACT Blue Shoes from No-No’s

“B” = SUBTRACT steps to BP from the age of the house when it was moved and DIVIDE the answer by 20.

“C” = The number of collected answers you DIDN’T use.

“D” = Your $100 answer PLUS bronze baskets.

“E” = BP to JKLCF MINUS one (1).

“F” = SUBTRACT 10 from the SUM of Pigtails and Statues.

“G” = DOUBLE Fish and ADD Arcs.

“H” = SUBTRACT Camaras SQUARED from Jets and DOUBLE the answer.

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.
