This geocache is being kept alive in memory of Mr Geo's loulog who passed away who passed away on May 23 2021. He served in the military as a Marine and was very famous for his cemetery hides that spotlighted various service members mainly Marines because he was a marine himself. RIP Mr. Geo's loulog.

 

In February 1861 the Confederate States of America was formed with Jefferson Davis as President. Michigan reacted quickly to the threat to the Union posed when 11 southern states decided to secede and form their own country. No county in Michigan made a better showing of loyalty, during the Civil War, than Ottawa county, considering her population and resources. She furnished 1,547 men The THIRTEENTH MICHIGAN REGIMENT was organized at Kalamazoo and mustered into the service of the United States on January 17, 1862, with an enrollment of 935 officers and men. It left State for Nashville, Tenn. February 12, 1862. Killed in Action 47 Died of Wounds 33 Died in Confederate Prisons 7 Died of Disease 253 Discharged from Wounds 216 Total Casualty Rate 26.6% All of the Michigan Civil Wartime Deaths 14,700. Near this cache lies the remains of a Civil War Hero from the 13th Michigan I Company.
