Favoured starting point with ample parking is at Tarland on the B9119 at G/R NJ 48544 05037 and then walking with care for 200mtrs NE to the start of the track which here is signposted "Smallburn"
The track is way-marked. The first plotted one is at G/R NJ48367 05625 immediately after which you pass through the small gate (close it behind you please) cross over a burn and start to climb up through a delightful avenue of Beech trees, at the top turn left, this appears to be a game bird feeding area so any dogs on a lead please.
At the next plotted way-mark G/R NJ48755 06398 take the track down to the left, it’s from this area that there are great views towards Morven and beyond
It’s now time to start seeking the cache.Hopefully you will soon be flushed with success and if so minded you could continue towards Pittenderrick hill and return via Ranna Farm and back to your car, making a 10km circular walk.
A more descriptive guide "Pittenderrick Circular Walk" is available from Upper Deeside Access Trust web site
