This cache is located in the rocks above the ruins of a Second World War radar station, high up on Rhossili Down, 500 feet above the beautiful three mile sweep of Rhossili bay. On a fine day, Radar Love offers one of the finest views in the UK :)
Sorry about the damp cache, I’ve had a medical setback and won’t be able to maintain it until late autumn 2024. Apologies.
GETTING THERE
You can reach this cache from either end of Rhossili Bay. You can park (or catch the bus) at Worms Head and walk North, but the best approach is from Hillend just beyond the village of Llangennith.
Park in Hillend Campsite and walk back up to the entrance where you will find a gate leading on to the hill (N51 35.638 W004 17.151). You can go straight up (very steep - utter madness!) or take a beautiful path to the left for a dramatic ridge walk. (See photo's - no spoilers!)
Follow this path until a yellow house comes in to view, then take a sharp right through the heather onto the rocky ridge. Follow this ridge path until you meet the main path (the steep one I mentioned earlier). Stay on this until you reach the top. As you crest the hill, the Radar Station will come in to view.
THE CACHE
The cache is on the South side of the ruins. It is a plastic box.
THE HIKE
It’s a reasonably demanding hike (but my 4 year old manages it regularly) and can be extremely windy during winter, so please dress as you would for the hills! On a fine day, the radar station is a great picnic spot and the kids will love it.
It’s approx a three mile round trip if you follow the ridge, with a height gain of over 400 feet. Allow 45 minutes to get up and 30 to get back down again. I hope you enjoy one of the best spots on Gower with fantastic 360 degree views for miles!
