Captain's Inn - The Geocache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

two bison: Based on the logs by PteraAtticus and others it is time to let this one go. It had a fine, long run.
Thanks again to Melanie, the Inn owner at the time of placement, who used to fill the cache with goodies before her untimely passing. The cookies she made were great and there is even a "Captain's Cookies" trackable out there somewhere ... we've never seen it, just the picture.

Geocache Description:

For Valentine’s Day, 2006, the Lady Bison and mr mo of two bison went to Moss Landing, Calif. for a natural history trip up Elkhorn Slough with Mr and Mrs Beluga. Of course, caching was part of the deal. This cache commemorates our visit.

The base of operations for our trip was the Captain’s Inn B-n-B. The building is the restored 1906 headquarters of the Pacific Steamship Company.

The innkeeper understood the natural history part of our trip as her husband is captain (hence the name) of a natural history tour, in nearby Elkhorn Slough (notable for its rafts of sea otters) and the surrounding Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, that we took on Valentine’s Day. When we started to explain geocaching she knew of it and told us that we could place one there so she “could put stuff in it.” She also gave us a travel bug to launch from this cache. We suggested that she do it herself, but we all decided she already has too much on her plate. She will take care of it, if it needs maintenance.

The innkeeper gave us only one rule for the placement of this cache:
Cachers are not to wander up the driveway in search of the cache.
The cache can be accessed from the public right-of-way along the front of the property.
