Geocache Description:

This is the sixth in a series of historic Randolph Township caches

Heinrich Warner was born in Wittenberg, Germany in the mid-1700s and came to America to seek his fortune. He originally settled in Maryland where he served in the Revolutionary War. After the war he moved to Pennsylvania and married. In 1811, he led his wife and nine adult children and their families down the Ohio River in flat-bottom boats from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati. Arriving in Montgomery County, the father bought 480 acres of land along what is today Sweet Potato Ridge Road in Randolph Township and this area became known as "the Warner Settlement." Throughout the years, Warner family members bought additional lands in adjoining townships, counties and states.

By 1890, only two Warners continued to live in this area, namely Enos Warner and E.F. Warner (who wrote the History of Randolph Township in W. H. Beer's History of Montgomery County, 1882.) In later years this cemetery was referred to as the Herr Cemetery since Samuel M. Herr, his wife Mary (Bowman) Herr and son Levi also are buried there along with many of the early Warners. Samuel M. Herr owned the farm across the road and his other son Henry Herr built the two-story brick farmhouse in 1883.

Cache with confidence! This cache was placed with permission from the City of Union.

Congratulations to Vallilphelkiir for making this their first find!

Important notes:
1. Look for the cache in daylight hours only. This is a private cemetery so please respect the property and stone markers.
2. The home owner behind the cemetery seems to be curious about visitors. This combined with the middle area being clear cut caused me to move the container to the right of the original hiding place. I plan on updating the hide to have it further away from the home.
