Geocache Description:

The woodcutter is celebrating turning the ol' half century mark and wants to celebrate it in style with all her geocaching friends; new and old.

This picnic will commence at 10:00 on Saturday, April 29, at Agua Caliente Park in Tucson. The coordinates are for barbeque area #12. We have a permit filed to use the park. However the ranger tells me that which area we get is first come, first serve. So woodcutter and family will be there when said park opens to secure the area we want.

We will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers for all. But we'd like you all to bring a dish/dessert to share. Donations of hamburger/hot dog buns and condiments would be much appreciated. Please list what you'll bring in your log. Also bring a beverage and remember that alcohol is not allowed in Pima County Parks. There are lots of picnic tables at the park but you'll probably want to bring your own comfy chair to lounge in.

Directions to Agua Caliente Park: Eastside of Tucson. (Coming in from out of Town? Take Houghton Road off interstate and head north until you get to Tanque Verde) Take Tanque Verde road east to Old Soldiers Trail. Head North. Turn east at Roger. Park is on the north side of Roger Road. I promised the Park Ranger that I would encourage you to carpool. She's afraid there won't be enough parking for the group. (More parking here than at the Yuma Event and it is paved!)

Woodcutter is happily busy in her woodshop creating some special woodcuts to be party favors for this event. But ya'll will have to work for them. Expect some temporary caches set up in the park for ya'll to find.

Of course we'll have a Travel Bug swap. And several geocaching tales to swap; tall tales, scary caches, fun caches, best sneaky hides. Bring all your good stories and share.

Bring some geocaching swag to put in a ammo box to be raffled off to some geocacher.

April 9th: Trusty Companion and Woodcutter went back to the park today to look for good spots for caches. We even stopped to count parking spaces. There are 80 parking spaces and 2 spaces for buses plus lots of parking on Roger Rd. We do have to share the parking lot with other users of the park.

Currently we have 28 teams that have logged in and reported that they are coming. This is right at 70 people if I count the size of the teams correctly.
People have logged in to say that they are bringing:
8 desserts (cookies, cupcakes etc)
2 groups bringing chips and 1 salsa
Deviled eggs
Pasta Salad
Garden Burgers (remember we're providing meat hamburgers and hot dogs)
Potato Salad
Veggie Plate and Veggie Pizza
6 packages of buns are promised

I've been asked what do we need. Well, we need more hamburger and hot dog buns but we also need the condiments; ketchup, mustard, relish, hamburger pickles, and BBQ sauce. Anyone care to bring chopped or sliced onions, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, or cheese?

Events: To begin at 10:00 and be ongoing until 2:00. Watch the weather but plan for the day to be in the 90's. So dress accordingly and bring plenty of fluids.

Cache Bash Dash (no this isn't a race, I just like that it rhymes)
There will be 8 caches out there to find. Inside each one you will have to retrieve a bead (different colored at each cache). After you show your string of beads you will recieve a ticket for the prize drawings. Prizes are special woodcutter pieces. There will be several prizes.

In the 8 caches there will be other items to look for that have been individually made for each team that has logged that they are attending the event. Woodcutter needs the time to create these items for you so I really really need you to log if you are coming ASAP!

Where's the Elephant? When you are finding caches you're working on the accuracy of both the hiders and seekers GPSr's. So we'll have a Purple Elephant on a stick. You figure out it's coordinates and write them down on a card with your team name attached. At 1:00 we'll mix those cards through the teams and have a different team mark your coordinates and see how they reach the elephant. No awards here just want everyone to try to understand accuracies and errors in our GPSr's.

Lunch: We plan to start serving about 11:30. If you are bring potato salad, eggs, macaroni salad or anything else spoilable please bring ice to set your dish in.

2:00 Drawings:
Drawing to award the Ammo Box that you've all filled with goodies.
Drawing to award winners of the Cache Bash Dash. Remember this is not a race. Winners will have their choice of Woodcutter pieces. So obviously first drawn will have the best choices.

Wednesday, April 26
At the moment we have 103 people coming with 45 teams represented. If you find you can't make it please post that sad news. The following is a list of teams coming with what they've said they're bringing. Since a few teams logged items twice and may have forgotten what they said they'd bring I think this will serve as your reminder. Plus if you haven't decided what to bring this should tell you what we need.

Help! Will we need help!
Yes, oh yes!

The Crazy H Crew has volunteered to check in and out those travel bugs. Please know their destination so we can put that down on the check in sheet.

We'll need some strong guys to move picnic tables over to where we need them. Park has lots of tables and some are mobile but heavy.

We'll need cooks. woodcutter's other half is in charge of that but 100+ hotdogs and 100 hamburgers will take a bit of help to get cooked up.

We'll need a buffet crew. To set it up, keep it looking appetizing and whatever else we can see.

Sneakiekittie and woodcutter are in charge of the Cache Bash Dash and event sign in. We need an experienced cacher to be in charge of Where's the Elephant. They might need to explain about accuracy on the GPSr's to newer cachers.

The WEATHER! Oh my! The current forecast is for Saturday to be between 81-84 degrees. Unbelievable. Not even supposed to be windy.

My woodshop is shuttered. My fingers are numb from sanding. Any cacher is welcome to come however, I'm not making another thing for this PARTY! Time to relax and just let the day come!

I just received an email from an Assignment Editor at Channel 13. They are planning on covering the Event for the News!!! They are doing a story on Geocaching for their May Sweeps! Be prepared for cameras and to answer questions. But don't be put off and NOT COME!
