A small stainless steel mess kit cache at 7854 feet on Burnt Mountain behind Yucca Street. No trail, steep ascent and lots of deadfall!
We placed this cache in honor of our mother, who died January 26, 2006. Mom lived in the house at the foot of Burnt Mountain for 37 years, and hers was one of the only houses that survived the Cerro Grande fire in 2000. Her little house was always a sanctuary for wildlife, especially birds, and it seemed a miracle that the fire preserved the house and the numerous ponderosa pines surrounding it. On this day, as part of our celebration of Mom's life, we placed this cache in her honor on a perch from which one can see almost forever.
