Woodhead Chapel stands in a commanding position on the old pack-horse route half-way along Longdendale.
The chapel was founded in 1487 by Sir Edmund Shaa who later became Lord Mayor of London and Jeweller to Edward IV. The current building was extensively renovated in 1910 and a porch was later added as a memorial to local men who died in the Great War.
It is safer and easier to park at Crowden. Take the gate into the woods and follow your GPS along the Northern Horse Route to the cache area.
